San Juan Island
Located on a quaint island opposite Roche Harbor in San Juan Island, Washington, this turn-of-the-century log cabin underwent a thoughtful restoration that included updating the original structure and adding a mudroom, laundry room, and main floor bathroom. To enhance functionality without compromising the cabin's rustic appeal, dormers and bathrooms were integrated into the two upstairs bedrooms, and all systems were modernized.
The design vision was to create a calming and peaceful atmosphere, incorporating a palette of natural textures and materials. The log walls were painted white to brighten the space, while warm white-washed walnut wide plank floors and fir countertops with iron and fir open shelving were installed to maintain the home's cozy charm. Rustic furnishings, antique rugs, and the client's collection of Native American art, complemented by natural island finds, are thoughtfully placed throughout, embodying a serene and inviting retreat.
