About Hillary Straatman
Raised in the Seattle area, Hillary's concept of home is intrinsically linked to her family. Her design sensibility is a tribute to her late grandmother, who not only had an impeccable eye for art and architecture but was also her beloved partner in antiquing and estate sale adventures. Additionally, her mother's ability to create a beautiful, warm, and inviting home environment has influenced Hillary's approach to design, making it a deeply personal endeavor that extends beyond aesthetics to the heart of what makes a space truly feel like home.
Prior to formally entering the design world, Hillary received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and an Associate Degree in Nursing, initially dedicating her career to being a cardiac nurse. However, after the birth of her second daughter, Hillary chose to step back from nursing to focus on her growing family, a decision that unknowingly set the stage for a new chapter in her life.
Her foray into interior design began when she met Lisa, a neighbor and now friend, during a home rewiring project. Seeking advice on lighting placement, Hillary not only discovered a wonderful friendship with Lisa but also a new career path that ignited her passion for creating inviting and comfortable spaces.
Hillary is captivated by the power of a well-designed space to transform one's mood, finding joy in crafting environments where people feel most at ease. Her inspiration is rooted in historic architecture and the natural world, with a particular fondness for the charm and uniqueness of turn-of-the-century homes, sparked by childhood experiences.
Outside of her design work, Hillary treasures time spent with her husband and their three daughters, embracing the outdoors through gardening, running, skiing, hiking, and camping. On rainy days, she can be found rearranging her home, infusing every corner with a touch of creativity and warmth.
